Directive
2002/95/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council
of January 23, 2003 on the restriction of the use of certain
hazardous substances in electrical and electronic equipment
went into effect as of July 1, 2006. Are you doing enough?
Can you sustain compliance in the long Run? Can you afford
the cost? Are your efforts designed to ensure that a defensible
legal position has been established should your company
be required to justify putting products on the market
in Europe? Do you believe that testing a few samples of
products is sufficient to demonstrate due diligence in
an international court of law? Do you rely on Certificates
of Compliance from your suppliers that state they fully
comply with all requirements? If so, why would you believe
the C of C’s accurate? Are you ready to demonstrate
compliance to the Chinese version of RoHS? How about California’s
or Korea’s? They all have pending statutory requirements.
Do
any of these questions cause a cold chill to run down
your spine? If so, you will be happy to learn that there
is a more logical, and defensible approach to ensuring
that your company has done everything possible to ensure
Compliance to RoHS associated with offering products for
sale in the European Union post July 1, 2006 (the date
compliance to RoHS became enforceable by the EU). The
International Electrotechnical Commision for Quality (IECQ)
has released IECQ QC08000 Hazardous Substance
Process Management, a technical specification
that augments your current Quality Management System (if
you are compliant to ISO 9001 or any of the similar standards).
Companies can demonstrate a significantly sustained approach
to compliance with the current (and any future) hazardous
substance regulatory requirements by creating processes
that comply with this Internationally recognized specification,
then undergoing a third party certification assessment
that will result in accreditation from IECQ.
Thousands
have already been trained in Asia and compliance to IECQ
QC08000 Hazardous Substance Process Management
may soon be mandated by your customers.
Learn
more at one of two upcoming public seminars offered by
the training organization authorized by IECQ to develop
and deliver training that certifies assessors to perform
Compliance evaluations against the IECQ QC08000
Hazardous Substance Process Management specification.
